Samsung Today
Samsung’s created a pretty cool theme for the Samsung Epix called “Samsung Today”. For being such a nice theme, much nicer than the default Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro homescreen atleast, I found it strange that was relatively hidden on the Epix.

To use the Samsung Today homescreen:
- Start > Settings > Today
- Select the color scheme/background to use in the “Select a theme for your device” list.
- Click the “Items” tab at the bottom
- In the “Checked items appear on the Today screen” list, select “Samsung Today”
- Click “OK” in the upper left corner of the screen
- Return to the homescreen
The one thing I don’t like about this theme is the AT&T Navigator link at the bottom. This may be removable, I haven’t had a chance to check though.

I like this today screen, after installing FTouchSL it makes the device more touchscreen friendly without the stylus. The only problem is the AT&T Navigator link, I have removed AT&T Navigator and want to remove from this screen as well.

Matt,
The best solution i’ve seen is renaming another app (like Google Maps) to have the same name as the AT&T Navigator app, and making the AT&T Navigator link launch the new app… its definitely not a very elegant solution though
I haven’t seen anyway to remove the AT&T Navigator link

how do you lock the phone without the option on the main screen to lock it?

press and hold the “Call End” button to lock

You can lock the phone by selecting the icon at the top for settings (it looks like a little sprocket with a wrench). From there the top left icon is the phone lock.

dixonian-
You can simply hold the red end button for a couple seconds and it will lock the phone. (If you look closely you will see a lock on the button as well).

how do you change the at&t navigator link?

You can change the ATT Navigator link by installing ATT Navigator, then replacing the shortcut found in Start Menu->Programs->ATT GPS-> ATT Navigator.
Thanks for a great site!

I’ve read a number of forums that state, if you are required to have a SimplyPin for work security reasons, your Device Lock (Red Button) will be disalbled and therefore you will need to keep your Device Lock icon on the Today Screen in order to lock the device.
Can anyone with a work supported PDA confirm they are having this problem?

Adam – that is correct. My Exchange Servers policy forces me to have a pin to access my phone (I have it set to prompt after 1 hour is idle time).. Because of the exchange server security setting I cannot use the Device lock (Red) button to lock my phone on demand. There is a registry hack that removes the need for a PIN when connecting to an exchange server, but I dont know if that lets you use the Device lock (Red) button to lock the device on-demand.

I couldn’t figure out why the red lock button would not work for me but I guess this explains it. Any idea how to take the onscreen lock (available in Today) and map to a key combination?

Excellent Today Screen. Tip on renaming the AT&T Navigator helped too. I now have Google Maps running in its place. Don’t forget the & in the folder and shortcut name though…above just called it ATT in both. I copied the dll for Samsung Today over to my PC and checked it out with a resource viewer and the string tables have other links stored within it for Media Player, Touch Player, Divx, etc. I made shortcuts in all the proper locations, but it didn’t appear to do anything different. It called the shortcut for My Stuff “Media Manager” too. Not sure what the reason is for the strings yet.

What is FTouchSL, and how do you install it.

Robby, FTouchSL is a application for the Samsung Epix that allows you to use finger gestures. Its a commecial app though so it costs money.

how do i rename the AT&T Navigator?

Robby, FTouchSL also has a free app at the same web site. It doesn’t have all the features as the one you buy, but its suffieicnt to give the EPIX the finger slide experience
