OS X Leopard

Download (Requires rlToday)

Update: This theme has been updated. The “Calls” button now takes you to the Missed Calls screen. Please re-download and re-install this theme.

This is my first stab at creating a theme for the Samsung Epix. If you’re familiar with MyBlackjack2.com you know that I enjoy making simple yet elegant themes that are easy to install.

This theme relies on the rlToday plug-in (I wish there was a way to make themes like this without using a third-party plug-in), so if you haven’t installed it, you’ll have to to install rlToday to use this theme.

This theme lists the Date and Time, a shortcut to the Alarms settings, and supports up to 5 application shortcuts (defined within the rlToday plug-in).

os x leopard theme OS X Leopard

I’ve created a handful of “hi-res” (42 x 42px) icons that can be used for the shortcuts. You can use default shortcut icons if you want, but they tend to look very “jaggy”. These icons are located in the /Program Files/rlToday/OS X Leopard/icons directory on your Samsung Epix, and can be set within the rlToday plug-in.

Also, when using this theme, set the Theme background to the included “theme-background.png” file. After activating the OS X Leopard theme, go to:

  • Start > Settings > Personal tab > Theme
  • Uncheck “Use default image”
  • Press the “Browse” button
  • Select My Device > Program Files > rlToday > OS X Leopard > theme-background.png
  • Press “OK” and apply the new background image.

If you’re handy with Photoshop and make other 42 x 42 px icons for shortcuts, e-mail them to me and ill re-package the theme to include them.

Do you know why Samsung Today or this theme doesnt show the no. of voicemail icon on the phone? It is wierd that I can see the no. of missed calls, but not the no. of voicemails or an indication that one has a voicemail. My voicemail icon on Epix phone is hidden because of an wktask addon I installed (which I like a lot and can’t give up)

James – Well # of voicemails doesnt show on OS X Leopard because I don’t use Voicemail (never set it up) so I didnt have a need for it :) — also there isnt really much room on the screen for it.

As for the Samsung Today theme, I have no idea why Samsung didn’t put that as one of the notification icons.

    David,

Thanks for your response. WkTask is an awesome utility I uncovered. It did allow me to specify offset pixels I wanted on right and left, and was able to resolve the issue of voicemail icon hidden from the view. My problem was resolved.

    Thanks for everything you do.

Has anyone worked on the HTC thems, like for the Black 2 phone? I like that on that phone and want to use it on the Epix. I found on that “claims” it is the same, but it does not work (all the time). It leave spaces on the bottom above the softkey bar.

What is the file path to Settings? I’d like to add it to the apps list but can’t locate the executable.

Also, if you would, could you post the links to other apps people might like to add to their list of 5? Thanks for this awesome theme.

  6. david Says:

Danny – not sure what you mean “what is the file path to Settings” .. ?

  7. Danny Says:

In the rlToday settings under that App tab. To add a new one you have to have the path to the file to be executed in order to add a new App link on the today page (one of the allotted 5).

  8. Danny Says:

I just don’t understand why you put in a icon for settings but no information on how to link to it in the Apps tab.

I’ve made a few 42×42 .png icons, but can’t seem to get the transparency to show up on the theme. They display with a grey background. What am I doing wrong?

  10. Gary Says:

Not sure if it will work for settings, but I was able to set a link to the Wireless Manager by using: \Windows\WrlsMgr.exe

  11. Gary Says:

BTW, I absolutely love the theme. Is there any way that you could post the size of the green “buttons” as well as their pixel location if possible, as I would like to try to make a different background, color scheme using the same layout.

    Thanks

  12. david Says:

Steve C. – Are you saving the icons as transparent PNGs? 8bit PNGs? 24bit PNGs?

I believe i saved mine as 24bit PNGs.

  14. Donna Says:

saved my day now I get my calls before they go to voice mail….Great site david….what would we do without the smart guys..

  15. Danny Says:

Gary, the green buttons are part of the actual background. Just edit the entire background image, buttons included (background.png).

  16. Ozzy Says:

having a bit of trouble with the theme. followed the instructions but when i went to put my 5 apps in i couldnt set my images right and it gave me an error. any help?

  17. jduk78 Says:

Ozzy, go to the rltoday forums. It’s a great help. If you’re at all computer-savvy, you’ll be making you’re own themes in no time.
