Samsung March 25, 2010 Multipatch ID1 an accident

Samsung replied to my inquiry regarding  Multipatch ID1 patch download with a March 25, 2010 release date on their Web site. Apparently Samsung upgraded their file server which updated the timestamp on their server. Below is Samsung’s official response:

Thank you for your inquiry. The two files that are dated March 25, 2010 are the original ID1 update. The server the ID1 upgrade is hosted on was changed and this changed the date on the file postings, by default.

We sincerely apologize for any confusion this has caused.

Concerning the release of Windows Mobile 6.5 for the Epix, unfortunately, we are unable to speculate when this software revision might be available due to the fact that this might lead to inaccurate information and confusion.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this presents. Please feel free to check back periodically for updates.

Sorry to get everyones hopes up!

I guess that’s the end then.
    Oh well.
    R.I.P. Epix.

Its not dead….it just means they can’t give an exact date on the release.

  3. Jeff Says:

Yeah it’s definitely not dead, and in fact the quote above actually sounds more optimistic than the wording on Microsoft’s website. They’re just not allowed to give the date in advance of the release – makes sense to me.

Gotta love the people that give up and/or complain instead of trying other solutions already out there to make the Epix work better.

  4. ASK Says:

Even with all the quirks, I still like the Epix better than other phone formats. If anyone is interested in selling his/her phone, I’m buying another.

  5. jduk Says:

ASK, I’ll sell you mine if you’re interested. Email me for details, condition of phone, etc.

A couple weeks ago I wanted to roll back my Epix to 6.1 from Trashcan’s cooked 6.5 ROM but the ID1 file was not on Samsung’s website. Lo and behold, now it’s back and my Epix is back to 6.1. I primarily use my HTC Pure but it’s good to have my Epix as a backup. (love my Pure, but still like the quirky Epix).

  7. verMONSTER716 Says:

Well, I have been waiting for this update for a while now and I’ve finally had enough. The problems that plagued the Epix were just too much to take for a phone that cost me $200.00 with an upgrade discount. Apparently, AT&T feel the same way. When speaking to the rep at warranty replacement, she stated that she HAS heard of this problem before (ID1) and said she would help me get a new phone with no problem. I had to go through the process of receiving 3 replacement phones, all of which came pre-installed with the ID1 update. When I received the third phone and called right away, they were quick to offer me my choice of these three phones, the HTC pure, HTC tilt2, and the Backflip. I chose the tilt2, which comes pre-installed with WM 6.5:). I have to say, I loved my Epix and wish samsung could get there shit together enough to fix the problems. Unfortunately, I have waited long enough. I hope this can help some of you who are stuck with a $200.00 brick.

    @verMONSTER716 Says:

I’m finally right there with you. Maybe a phone is the only thing that has a lifespan that goes like this:

Brand new-you love it >>>>to>>>>> less than two years old and you hate it.

I’m not talking a little bit of hate here. I want to crush this thing like it’s the center of problems for my own personal universe. Perhaps I’m off my meds??? But REEEEEAAAALLLLLLY hate this phone now.

  9. KeltischWerWolf Says:

Are u shittin me, i love the epix!!! I have the Htc Pure, cause the pins on my epix’s Usb/Charger port pulled away from the motherboard, a common problem that Samsung has known about since this newest version of thier USB 2.0, was introduced. The Pure is an utter peice of shit, lower proc speed, lower internal mem, and storage, o did i mention thatit gets so freakin hot it almost catches on fire or completely bricks the pure! dont even waste ur money!

  10. Max Says:

Just wondering… what exactly does 6.5 bring in terms of new features, updates, or fixes? Are we even going to notice anything different?

  11. ASK Says:

What are you talking about? I’m using the ID1 rom and I wouldn’t describe it as a nightmare. My EPIX works pretty well most of the time. I have to restart it from time to time but I suppose it’s the same with other Windows Mobile devices. Heck, I had a Treo 650 and once it corrupted everything in the SD card.

Sure, it would be nice if they refined it more, but what do you expect if they release like 30 models a year? They drop support on older models because you guys switch phones at the slightest provocation…

  12. Doubtful Says:

Another deadline has passed and nothing new from Samsung. I wish they’d just tell us if they’re still planning to finish the project or abandon it all together. Maybe they just got upset that one guy built a working copy before an entire company could.

  13. hizhonor Says:

Android or Palm/HP’s WebOS is looking better by the moment. And I gotta say … I doubt that I’ll ever purchase another Samsung product, let alone one of their phone again. I understand delays in software development. What I can’t get my arms around is the complete lack of communication and ownership of the missed commitments. Just doesn’t speak well of their brand.

  14. Max Says:

It’s typical… companies throw money and manpower at new projects. Nobody wants to work on something that’s been released, because it doesn’t make them money.

  15. Chris Says:

If a company is not going to support their products, I am not going to purchase their products in the future. I bought the Epix and despite being a bit buggy I have been reasonably happy with it. That said, the lack of a functional GPS and touch screen not designed for the current OS is a pain. When able to, I plan on upgrading phones and staying clear of Samsung. The ONLY way they can change my mind is to provide support for their existing customers. That is how you create brand loyalty.

  16. Frustrated Says:

I noticed on AT&T’s website that someone had contacted Samsung, and Samsung’s position on the topic is that they are awaiting approval from AT&T to begin work on the upgrade. That said, I have tried to have AT&T fix/replace the phone due to the broken GPS function and they told me to go to Samsung. Once again, AT&T proves that they couldn’t care less about their customers concerns.

  17. SamsungSucks Says:

What a schocker! They missed the April release date for 6.5. I don’t think they are capable of getting 6.5 to work on a device that they can’t even fix the GPS on, which was working fine before the ID1 update. I have put up with this piece of crap for almost a year and half. I’m not sure how I have managed to not throw it out of the car window, into a brick wall, or into a lake. Given how often it locks up, resets it ring tone to the default, or goes completely silent with no sound at all. Prior to this I put up the Motorola Q on Verizon which would restart itself several times a day. I can’t wait to be able to upgrade to a the iPhone 4G. So long Samsung and Windows Mobile/Phone! Good riddance I say!

Oh yeah, I am amazed that there wasn’t a class action law suit on this puppy.

  18. brian Says:

heh wow have we given up? Im stuck with this phone til jan :/ it does work, just hate to loss of sound and vibration. MS must of said forget 6.5 we’re workin on winmo7.

  19. steve porter Says:

I downloaded this re-posting of the id 1 update and guess what” NO PHONE LOCK UPS AT ALL”. they must have changed something because my phone works better. the gps is still slow. does work! i use google. and att navigator ( take a while to hone in. ). its best to restart the phoen afterward.

  20. George Says:

When you use GPS, does your device.exe still spike to 70%?

  21. Bao Li Says:

I’ve given up on the Epix and given up on Windows Mobile. Recently purchased a Motorola Milestone. All I can say is, Windows Phone 7 better be freakin spectacular or it’s done…

  22. Chris Says:

I finally decided to just upgrade to the WM6.5 unofficial realease that was recently updated. It’s not perfect, but I do like it better than WM6.1. If you really don’t want to wait, give it a try…. Otherwise, you will likely be waiting forever.

  23. Lighthumor Says:

I spoke to Samsung a few months ago while trying to install ID1 (which was successful for the PDA but not for the phone, and not even Samsung tech support could help). The rep I spoke to said thee Epix has been discontinued and he implied that it was a failed product in Samsung’s eyes.

The Epix has been the worst phone I’ve had. Not only is it slower than snot, but since AT&T added 3G to my area, I miss ~75% of all calls in my house… sometimes it will take a few hours just to give me a message indicator, even when it’s showing decent signal (3-4 bars). I can not WAIT to get a better phone. As someone who is not a gun owner and has never shot a real gun, I plan to take my Epix to the firing range and use it for target practice as soon as I have a phone to replace it.

  24. brian Says:

iphone4 is out and played with it at store, makes my epix feel like a crippled pos. apple is too far ahead of the cell phone game for ms to catch up.

  25. Adolph Hitler III Says:

I agree with all the haters regarding the lack of support Samsung has shown our poor little epix. Brian nailed it with his take about iphone4; note to the Seattle group: you fucking blew it by sitting on your pile of money and letting us drift about waiting for usable code drops while Apple ass-fucked you out of more market share than you’ll ever earn via a product that offers the words: cool, usable, handy, supported, functional, hardy, or worthy.

  26. Richard Says:

Samsung has 6.5 listed on their site now. Posted 7/2/10. Downloading now. Maybe this will turn it into a half-ass decent phone now. Granted I only use it for one of my businesses, and just for apps.

  27. Richard Says:

Installed. Overall running a bit better than 6.1, GPS issue appears to be fixed.

  28. hizhonor Says:

On my second attempt installing the upgrade using my Window 7 32 bit computer running as administrator. First time it hung after loading the new PDA file. Executed the change to USB and just sat there. A battery pull and reboot after an hour showed that 6.5 was there but no new phone module.

Second attempt this morning got farther along. Looks like it may have downloaded the phone, blue bar says create COM 4 succeeded and is just sitting there for the last 15 mins. I’ll let that percolate for a bit. If no joy I’ll fire up my old XP laptop and give that a go.

The installer may just not like Win 7.

  29. Richard Says:

It doesn’t. I noticed I had to disable advanced usb support and let Win 7 install new drivers for it. Once that was done, it worked like a charm.

After it was done, Win 7 had to install new drivers again for it.

Makes me yern for the day my company ditches WinMo for WebBased so I can ditch the phone.

  30. Steve Says:

Three successive attempts with my Win7 machine finally finished the job. Looks like it loaded additional drivers each time where it stopped before and proceeded a bit further on the next attempt. I was going to drop back and use the XP version, but Samsung decided to take their servers down for a day of maintenance. Yahgah!

Now attempting to restore data and exchange settings …

  31. Aaron Says:

I can’t even get my Window 7 machine to allow me to start the install. Tried installing modem driver. no help file. How the eff do you do this?

  32. Richard Says:

I also set the compatibility mode for the install to vista. that MAY have something to do with it.

  33. john Says:

well i waited it out as long as i could i picked up a htc aria wonderful phone i was planning on keeping the epix for a backup but a close family member wanted a internet capable phone plus i still have my black jack1 for back up im happy i switched i was looking at the new windows moble phones and they were slow

  34. Shelton Macmanus Says:

Immediately after receiving the BACKFLIP from the mail I was happy yo know I could update the new firmware. I missed the rush, and it was lucky. I’ve had the Backflip for over a month a few details three or 4 crashes in a 30 days not bad for 15-20 apps open New WIFI details, and also a greater edge dada than earlier Nokia E61 and N93 Wonderful that the BACKFLIP includes a flex keyboard, the screen can be a bit difficult around the edges. You get 500 messages per day from Twitter, Facebook, Yaho, and who actually else yopu want. If you’ve 30-60 accurate friends, this is a good mobile phone if you could have additional it is going to grab too significantly details. Just a month but a fantastic cell phone.

  35. htc pure Says:

i’ve had my pure for per week now and i nonetheless dont know what to do… like altering the message alert tone to whatever i need it not simply the basic ones on the phone… the whole lot about this phone is complicating.. i also needed to alter to that android software program as a result of home windows is simply too slow and someone please assist me how to do that
