Restore factory settings (hard reset)

If you want to restore your Samsung Epix to the state it was when you purchased it, you can restore the factory settings by performing a hard reset. Samsung has provided two different methods for doing this:

  1. Hard Rest Wizard
    1. Go to Start > Settings
    2. Select the System tab at the bottom.
    3. Launch the “Hard Reset” program.
    4. Press the “Hard Reset” button.
    5. Select the memory type to clear (generally you will only select “Device”).
    6. Enter the confirmation code in the text field and press “Yes”.
    7. Your Samsung Epix will perform a Hard Reset and reboot.
  2. Manual Hard Reset
    1. Remove your SIM card before performing a Manual Hard Reset
to prevent loss of SIM-specific information.
    2. Make sure your Samsung Epix is powered off.
    3. Press and hold the H key.
    4. Press the Power On key until the device starts to boot up (red light will flash).
    5. Immediately release the power key while continuing to press the H key.
    6. Wait for the Format Mode screen to appear.
    7. Release the H key and follow the on-screen instructions.

When performing a hard reset, does it affect your sim card or sd card?

I am wanting to reset both my phone and sd card, but I don’t want anything erased off the sim.

Any way to reset the phone settings to original but keep stuff I have downloaded like contacts, word files?

manorden – the only way to do that is store anything you want saved on a microSD card. You can use a service like Flexilis to backup your contacts (you should have unlimited data if you plan on using Flexilis though)

What gets lost when you choose Device for hard reset?

I don’t care about themes and such, and I don’t have many files or data on there (I’m 1 week into my Epix).

Will all my WiFi setup go (I entered keys and such)?
What about the Exchange sync and Yahoo mail settings?

Not a major problem … just want to know how much time to set aside for this procedure.

(Even better if you have suggestions for WiFi. I’ve followed many of the procedures for getting WiFi to work for browsing–like check no proxy for IE–but it hasn’t worked yet. I connect to the AP at home or at work, but browsing with IE gets stuck on Locating …. Other users say the hard reset got it to work, so I want to try that.)

My epix will not power on unless it is plugged in (either wall or USB) and then once it gets to the Windows Mobile screen, it cuts off. If I am plugged into the USP port, it does this over and over. The whole time the red light flashes slowly on and off. Can someone PLEASE help me??
    Thanks!

Amanda, did you already do a Hard Reset? If so, then you may need to use the warranty.

I’m going to check out Flexilis. If you can save all of your device settings that would be great. Is there a way to save device settings (ring tones, email settings, etc) to your SD card?

Hey, I seem to have a weird problem. Neither of these hard reset options work for me. I’ve tried many times holding the H button down and no dice and I don’t have the hard reset program on my phone. Ugh! Any other ideas? I need to reset the phone because I’m getting the error message that says “the file whatever.exe cannot be opened…” for all my applications and now my device isn’t recognized by active sync. I have a bad feeling about all this…
