the basics Samsung Multipatch ID1 Update (March 25, 2010) a dud?

Samsung Multipatch ID1 Update (March 25, 2010) a dud?

Note: This is NOT a Windows Mobile 6.5 Update.

UPDATE 2: Samsung has confirmed this is the old May 2009 ID1 update. Do not bother installing this patch.

UPDATE 1: keff found a post on xda-developers.com where the poster performed a btye-diff on this patch installer and the original May, 2009 ID1 Update installer and says they are exactly the same. If this is the case this patch is no different than ID1 patch that broke GPS functionality.  I am waiting back to hear from Samsung regarding their official stance on this patch release.

I recommend not applying the patch.

My Experience

  • GPS satellite lock still taking a long time
  • After running app the uses GPS, device.exe process stays at 60%+ CPU utilization
  • GPS apps drain battery more quickly than they would otherwise
  • No SLOG dumps yet

Again, I recommend not applying this patch as Samsung has confirmed its a a re-release of the May 2009 ID1 patch.

For those of you that want to install this patch for some reason, please read this post to see what the ID1 patch does.

If people have comments on experiences installing and using the update, please post in the comments!

The key and pin do not work for the version I downloaded – Win Vista?

  2. J.D. Says:

You said it fixed GPS battery drain… does it fix the issues with the gps taking forever to locate satellites?

Also, I’m assuming this will revert the epix back to 6.1 assuming you have trashcan’s 6.5 installed?

  3. Mitch Says:

    # For the ID prompt, enter 6416
    # For the Key prompt, enter 2364

  4. Jason Says:

I used the keys you promted on the windows xp version and its not working

    from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5996806&postcount=999

“I ran a diff and the file is exactly the same byte for byte as the origional ID1 update. I suspect they mearly did something on their site which caused the file date to change.”

The complete directions are here: http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa/jsp/faqs/faqs_view_us.jsp?SITE_ID=22&PG_ID=0&AT_ID=151652&PROD_SUB_ID=0&PROD_ID=558

    So conflicting info:

Original article says it fixes the GPS battery drain issues, but a diff ran (also reported above) shows it to be identical to the ID1 update. Version info reported with *#1234# (from directions posted above) is the same as post IDI update — and there is no mention of the GPS fix at the end of the instructions. One would think there would be.

If it truly fixes the GPS issues in the phone module, I’d be willing to re-flash to 6.1, then reapply trashcan’s ROM. Otherwise, I’m sitting tight.

BTW .. Mark asks about 64bit issues above. The recently posted instruction links clearly indicate the drivers are not compatible with the 64bit Windows OS.

Update – i’ve played around more w the GPS and it seems to be draining my battery more quickly. All signs are pointing to this patch being a re-release of the May 2009 ID1 patch.

  12. Justin Says:

GPS works great on my unit. Finally I can use Garmin on my EPIX again with no worries.

    Thumbs Up – Until the 6.5 Release….

  13. George Says:

Did you have the original lD1 update installed?

  14. Epix-User Says:

They just posted the original ID1 updates on the main web page. Before you had to go through the update pdf to the special “ars.samsung” website to get the updates. Samsung is probably making the site easier to access for people or hopefully putting the old patch up in preparation for the 6.5 update. (wishfull thinking)

  15. Justin Says:

I don’t think this was the same file as the original ID1.

My GPS is functioning correctly now, as it was not before.

  16. pgens Says:

Justin: it is the same file, others have done a byte comparison, they can’t be different if that comes up the same. It may be working after you re-applied ID1, but it wasn’t because there was anything different with what was released. That said I am glad it is working for you, whatever the cause.

  17. Justin Says:

Gotcha… Just glad to see the GPS functioning now…

  18. Keith Says:

Yes it does work in windows 7 x64 you have to run the program in Admin mod.

  19. Keith Says:

And my GPS does work faster since I updated it again.

  20. J.D. Says:

So the secret is ID1 twice? Guess nobody tried that one.

Looks like I know what I’m doing tonight. (thanks for the x64 advice keith)

I consider I am going to make an effort to suggest this publish to my pals and family, cuz ensures that it is genuinely helpful.

  22. Adrien Kram Says:

I have to say, i always could not come to an agreement with you in 100%, but it is just my opinion, which could possibly be incorrect.

  23. Stanford Stoecklin Says:

    ohh…nice publish but genuinely?/? :P

  24. wesley Says:

it is great to use a wm6.5 on your device, clarity in screen after update and fast in performers which make for a better usage. samsung epix is now beautiful. more features and work 70% accurate, though media player sometimes freezes during play on background or today screen when screwing tracks as it plays.though i love it. previous was let down 50% accuracy. update an it is ok
