Samsung Epix gets the official Windows Mobile 6.5 nod
Microsoft officially announced the Samsung Epix will get official Windows Mobile 6.5 support. There is no official word yet of when, but I suspect late October/early November of 2009. [Edit] It’s a Samsung Epix Update, what was I thinking? New reports indicate possibly in Feb 2010.
If trashcan’s unofficial Windows Mobile 6.5 releases are any indication of what the official release will look like, Epix owners are in for for a real treat.
Lets just hope in this upgrade Samsung can fix the problems with the GPS, notifications and audio cut-outs. We may finally have a stable phone after everything is said and done.
Even if this isn’t a silver bullet fix for all of the problems that plague the Epix, it’s a step in the right direction.

Bout damn time he y said it, i love my phone, i pimp it all the time on what it can do compared to the iphone, and people get mad at me, lol, and with the newest version of Opera Mobile, it may be just as good with the widgets!!!
October 9th, 2009 at 8:22 am
This is good news, my epix 1D firmware has gps slow/no start batt drain, audio cutout, and notification troubles. I do like the phone, hopefully it will be an excellent phone.
October 10th, 2009 at 4:16 pm
It also explains why there was no traction in fixing the 6.1 OS update. And, why no support people know. They are always the last to know this stuff.

Brian…..
The issue has been resolved! I’v gone through 3 Epix trying to get one that worked and had finally given up.
The following is from Neil in the “Epix frustrations thread”. I tried it and my Epix is now 100%!
“….For those with battery issues I think I found a possible fix. It seems that the ID1 update broke the aGPS function of the device so that it will never connect to data. Prior to the update, the device would connect to the data network and find the location rather quickly. This does not happen after the update. With my limited programming experience, I would make sense that one line of code that points in the wrong direction could put the program into a loop and eat up resources including the processor. It seems that if you set the GPS not to use the assisted functionality, this does not happen.
Navigate in the file browser (programs>applications>file browser) to My Device/Windows/GPSTest.exe
Select: Menu>Options>GPS
Under the “Operating Type” option select “Stand-alone” and then select “Done”
This should allow you to use the GPS (if it works at all) without “Device.exe” hitting ~70%. For me it stays around ~1% where it normally is even when using the GPS and does not drain the battery faster than normal.
I hope this helps and good luck to those sticking with the Epix”
October 10th, 2009 at 11:21 pm
When you set GPS to stand-alone be sure to choose “warm start” to get a faster fix.
October 11th, 2009 at 3:34 am
It makes me wonder at the footnote that states:
“* Not all models of these phones will be updatable. Check with your mobile operator to determine update availability.
** Dates provided by our partners and are subject to change. Update availability not guaranteed.”
October 12th, 2009 at 9:11 am
I have given up on this phone. Maybe WM6.5 will fix some issues, but I’m just not willing to wait and see.
Got AT&T to replace with Fuze, hopefully a better phone. But I wanted to mention that when I was talking with the AT&T people to get the replacement on Thursday, I asked about the WM6.5 update and they insisted that there would be no update for the AT&T Epix, they are trying to get rid of them altogether. Take that with a grain of salt, there are many reports of AT&T employees being clueless in the past. But it added to my decision to give up on the Epix.
October 12th, 2009 at 11:43 pm
Lod that is from samsung mobile, not ATT, i got pissed to about their lack of support, but was overjoyed, by samsung, by the way ya get the update from Samsung not ATT, when its released!
October 13th, 2009 at 2:36 am
very beautiful very nice il be waiting
October 13th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
Using GPsTest, is this correct
OPtions > GPS
Operating Type = Stand-alone
Session Type = Nevigation (yes that’s what it says) or Single Fix?
Start Type = Warm
These settings hold or just when your GPSTest.exe?
October 14th, 2009 at 1:30 am
Mark,
thanks for the setting on the GPS. Works like a charm !!!!
October 14th, 2009 at 9:30 pm
Whoa.
Don’t get ahead of yourself. Just slow down and read the heading again.
“Phones that can be updated from Windows Mobile 6.1 to 6.5″. That’s all M$ said.
They’re saying that the Epix hardware will support an update to 6.5. It’s up to Samsung/ATT to actually do the work.
I doubt that it happens.
Nobody used the word ‘Will’, but you.
Mark
October 14th, 2009 at 10:40 pm
In other words, I’ll believe it when I see it.
October 15th, 2009 at 9:33 pm
I’m not sure MS would publish details about a hand-set upgrade if it wasn’t going to happen. Epix wasn’t on the original list that went live on the 6th, it was added later. I hope the update comes soon and turns the device into something usable, otherwise i’ll start a new series of YouTube videos on blowing up epix.
October 16th, 2009 at 3:17 am
I don’t get the anger at Samsung/ATT.
My Epix worked fine out of the box. I’ve owed a couple of smart phones – the HTC Wizard and the ATT Tilt – and the Epix was better than either.
I installed id1, even though I didn’t have any problems with the phone. Like many others, the GPS starting fritzing. But the fix in this thread – which has been around the net for awhile – solved that. Now, again, the phone works like a charm.
When I bought the Epix, it was a full $100 cheaper than the Fuze and the Bold. Now disgruntled users are demanding Fuzes and Bolds, as if they were the most natural replacements. Smartphones are dropping in price, but the more appropriate replacement for the Epix would be the e71x, the Jack or the Propel Pro. Funny no one is demanding them.
So, what’s the beef at this point? GPS? That’s fixed. The slog dump is fixed. Samsung released this phone at perhaps an unrealistic price point, and some quality control issues arose. ATT is in a position of losing money on the phone, because the unhappy customers are demanding upgrades for free. Despite this, Samsung and Microsoft are updating the phone to 6.5. I would rather have had a phone that never had a single problem, but you get what you pay for.
October 16th, 2009 at 4:59 am
What’s the beef? The beef is that not all has had success with the GPS even after the settings change listed in this thread. The beef is a product was paid for and is not working like it should. The beef is sitting on the phone talking with several support people from AT&T with each one following the same script with no knowledge of what some Epix users are experiencing. The beef is being sent out a replacement Epix and it behaving exactly like the Epix that it replaced.
Ron, consider yourself fortunate that your Epix is working like a charm. As for me, I’ve given up on the Epix replacement dance with AT&T and learning to live without GPS and random audio drops for incoming phone calls. Based on this experience, the next phone I choose will not be a Samsung.
October 16th, 2009 at 2:09 pm
Ron, a lot of us didn’t get our Epix for a bargain price. On my corporate program, the Epix and the Fuze were the same price; I chose the Epix because the Fuze is a big, heavy brick. According to the specs, the Epix is a feature-rich phone with a high cap battery and a very acceptable form factor. Only problem is that it isn’t really a phone since the ringer NEVER rings – nope, never has, out of the box or post-1D1. It has forced me to go back to using a 6 year old HP iPaq phone which is larger and heavier but it rings when a call comes in. And the HP, still with its original battery lasts 2-3 times as the Epix. Even with the work-around to put the GPS into standalone mode it is much slower responding causing TomTom to lag in providing turn prompts. I can go on, but Samsung and ATT both deserve whatever lumps this product causes for them.
Good companies would have been proactive and put out a recall and offered compensation to keep the customers happy rather than ignoring and denying the problems. A happy customer tells their friends that they’re happy, an unhappy customer tells EVERYONE that they’re unhappy.
October 17th, 2009 at 5:29 pm
Wow, quite a reaction.
In my travels on various sites that discuss the Epix, I hear of a couple of basic problems: notifications, the slog dump, and now the GPS. There aren’t many complaints that the phone doesn’t function for calls. If yours doesn’t, then you should get a replacement.
Good companies make smart business decisions. The Epix was never a big seller, and I doubt it was ever intended to be – the Fuze was sexier, and the Blackjack II, which looked and functioned a lot like the Epix, was a fraction of the price.
The slog dump error was obviously a serious problem that affected a lot of the phones, and they released a patch. The patch fried the GPS on some phones. I don’t think this is an easy technical problem.
But if you think that the dissatisfaction of a percentage of disgruntled purchasers of one cell phone is something that Samsung and ATT should be devoting a lot of resources to repairing, or suffer some dramatic backlash, you’re dreaming. Cell phones are sold on appearance and new features. Samsumg has dozens of cell phones on the market at any given time, and almost all of them are completely functional. Samsumg makes dozens of other electronic products, like HDTVs, and many of them are highly rated. If having a problem with one modestly-selling product and poor customer service in response to a technical problem were a death knell in the technology and electronics field, then Microsoft would have filed for bankruptcy decades ago.
I like products to work as well as you do. So, for that matter, does Samsung and ATT. But the idea that you should take some sort of revenge or boycott of ATT or Samsung because of quality control problems with one fairly minor product, and especially the notion that that action will be of the slightest consequence to either company, is a little detached from reality, in my opinion.
October 17th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
I look forward to 6.5.
I count myself lucky to have an Epix that has not been a problem. I got it May of this year through Amazon. Maybe I got a good one off the assembly line … or they actually fixed/replaced some circuit or chip. It only cost me $0.01 (plus a new service contract, which I needed anyway)… so if it did have trouble I’d be fine to just recycle it and buy another model.
Instead, I love it. Love the optical mouse. Love Win Mobile and all the apps.
October 18th, 2009 at 12:05 am
I love the epix, like it way better than the Iphone only one set of phones are equal to this and that is the Omnia series!!!
October 18th, 2009 at 4:59 am
I just had to remind myself and thought to share, “Don’t feed the trolls.”
October 19th, 2009 at 3:44 pm
I’ll try the gps fix, but still plan to jump to android and awat from ATT soon.
October 20th, 2009 at 3:19 am
Is it just me or do none of these “fixes” work. Perhaps the GPS is “fried”. The Epix was such a nice phone, too. Unfortunately, the ID1 update cure was worse than the disease.
We’ve replaced most of these Epix phones with Blackberries where I work, and we’re never going back. It’s not a boycott; just a sound business decision.
October 27th, 2009 at 12:59 pm
@Mark: There is Android for the Epix
– http://androidoni780.blogspot.com/
@Ron: AT&T was being real arses to me, and finally got them to replace my LG Incite with the Samsung Epix. I wanted the Fuze too (Which I read a lot of people were getting to replace the Incite) but was offered only the Epix, a Blackberry Curve, and 2 cruddy phones not worth mentioning. In the long run, I’m much happier with the Epix than I’d ever be with the Fuze. Sure, 640×480 and accelerometer would be nice, @Keltisch_WerWolf is in the right mindstate in saying that even with it’s 320×320 and lack of certain newer hardware, the Epix is better than the iPhone
October 28th, 2009 at 9:07 pm
I seem to have different problems than most people talk about:
1) My GPS has never worked, never locked onto satellites. Using Google Maps I can determine my approximate location according to the GPS location of the cell tower I’m closest to but that’s about it. I’ve been in meetings where someone pulled out a fruitphone and it locked onto its location in a matter of seconds.
2) Internet browsing is extremely slow. I’ve tried it on numerous websites, with ie and also with several versions of Opera. On the simplest website you can imagine it might load in 15 seconds. A more complicated website will take several minutes. Again sitting side by side with a fruitphone or with someone with a different ATT phone their websites will load in a few seconds.
3) Call quality with the phone seems to be very good, but it has an annoying habit of putting calls on hold while I’m talking.
4) I’ve used Windows PDA’s for a long time. When I put my apps on the Epix they run extremely slow. My slow little ipaq h1910 is much faster than the Epix even though theoretically its CPU runs at 1/3 the speed.
If the phone won’t access the internet or provide GPS, then why shouldn’t I go back to a standard phone without data plan and save bunches of money? We got this phone through our ATT plan which was eligible for an upgrade, and the phone was still extremely expensive. Fuze, Blackberry, iPhone were all less expensive, but “on paper” had less features.
October 29th, 2009 at 8:46 pm
@djaxim: The GPS issue is one I’ve had before. It is very cool to see the nearest tower, but of course that defeats the purpose of having GPS
) so it mostly sounds to me like a DOA phone. I’d have AT&T replace it, and if it still doesn’t work, switch to the Fuze (Or do what I did with my cruddy Incite, and just keep bitching about the same problem, and once they send enough replacement phones, claim the lemon law to get a refund + contract cancellation)
As for the speed issues, you may have a defective phone. I’m even able to browse Newgrounds.com (despite the fact the flash doesn’t work properly for some odd reason) and even YouTube (which on other phones, I got the VERY common error that video wouldn’t play, but on the Epix, it does
November 5th, 2009 at 10:23 pm
Well the Jack got its official 6.5 update today, so I’m hopeful the Epix will soon follow.
November 6th, 2009 at 5:45 pm
That’s good for the Jack owners. I’m wondering why the expected availability for the Epix and the Omnia 2 hasn’t been updated with an estimated date. I hate to speculate.
November 8th, 2009 at 11:38 pm
I e-mailed Samsung and this was their response:
Dear Joe,
Thank you for your inquiry. We are unable to speculate when/if this software revision might be available due to the fact that this might lead to inaccurate information and confusion.
Should this become available, it will be posted on our website in the Samsung Download Center.
November 9th, 2009 at 1:24 am
A very safe and non-commited answer from Samsung. Nice try though.
November 9th, 2009 at 7:15 pm
Haha, definitely. A great answer. Though it is typical that if an update is NOT planned, they WILL say so. This is their way of saying it IS planned, but they MAY change their mind.
November 10th, 2009 at 6:10 pm
@ Ron:
“But the idea that you should take some sort of revenge or boycott of ATT or Samsung because of quality control problems with one fairly minor product, and especially the notion that that action will be of the slightest consequence to either company, is a little detached from reality, in my opinion.”
Likewise, if AT&T and Samsung expect to keep customers after such horrible product support, they are a little detached from reality.
November 10th, 2009 at 10:14 pm
@jduk
I think the real moral of the story is make sure you buy a popular phone, regardless of who makes it.
November 11th, 2009 at 12:58 am
@J.D>
Spot on. I really thought the EPIX would be a hit but I’m guessing the square screen, the unusual mouse/4 way control and uneven reviews kept many away. I still like it but then I never had the serious issues many experienced. If the 6.5 update fixes the GPS without introducing another problem then I’ll be very happy and probably keep it around until the right WM7 phones arrives.
November 11th, 2009 at 7:25 pm
J.D., so I should have crossed over to the dark side and joined the iphone snobs? Ugghh I cringe at the thought.
November 11th, 2009 at 7:35 pm
I wish the guy Zen who made the NotifBlinker program to control LED blinking would have made a sound alert notification too. Aren’t their any computer/phone programmers who can look at the NotifBlinker and just adjust a few settings/words to make it work for sound in addition to LED? I guess that’s a rhetorical question, otherwise I assume it would have already been done. Just thinking out loud… haha
November 11th, 2009 at 10:03 pm
jduk,
ok, you got me there. I think think more along the lines of a Bold or maybe a Fuze…
November 12th, 2009 at 5:27 am
My epix’s charge port died and i used the warrenty claim (it was under 1 year), so now I am getting a new one (not refurbished), so i will let you know if it comes with 6.1 or 6.5. I did try to get the tilt 2, but I will stick it out with the epix until I have enough money saved up to get the tilt 2 (and it goes on holiday sale). I’ll post as soon as i get it and get it turned on.
November 12th, 2009 at 5:14 pm
J.D.,
Yeah.. the Bold was $100 more expensive when I got my Epix. The Fuze was more $$$ too, but it was also too thick for my liking. I’m actually relatively happy with my Epix compared to a lot of people here, but I do wish the little bugs would have been worked out sooner. Still, even with these little issues, I will be wary of buying another Samsung. Probably will go with a Blackberry or other WM phone in the future.
November 13th, 2009 at 5:27 am
I got my new epix today, unfortunately it was only windows mobile 6.1. I am looking for a good 6.5 (not timebombed) and will flash that asap. I am looking into getting the tilt 2 after xmas or before if I find a good deal.
November 14th, 2009 at 2:29 am
They’re still selling the Epix?
We’re all waiting for the 6.5 update. I check this site like twice a day to see if there’s any news. It’s a lot like watching paint dry so far
November 16th, 2009 at 4:07 am
Their not selling the epix in the stores or online, but a smartphone like this one is still probably in their warehouses and send them out or repair them. As far as a rom update goes, what are the odds that this is a samsung update that lacks ATT stuff (even a little bit of stuff?).
November 16th, 2009 at 6:36 pm
I’m guessing most of us will fall in the category of being eligible for an upgrade before 6.5 becomes a legitimate option. From the reviews and other news I’ve been reading at wired.com, cnet.com, et al, it looks like Windows Mobile is losing ground fast. Unless Microsoft can prove themselves worthy before my uprade, it’s looking more like an iPhone or droid for me.
November 17th, 2009 at 12:38 am
@Sixbee: That might be the case indeed. Although, I just loaded the cooked 6.5 from Trashcan (23081) and I definately like the new interface. Looks like I’ll play around with this ROM until an official 6.5 upgrade is released (if?). I still have another year on my Epix before upgrade eligibility.
November 17th, 2009 at 1:54 am
@ AJ — don’t tease us like that dude.. 6.5 on the Epix without ATT crapware? Too good to be true.
November 17th, 2009 at 3:43 am
I am already up for an upgrade but i don’t want to spend the money on a new phone… yet. After xmas i am going for the tilt 2 if i can afford it. As far as 6.5 without ATT crapware, if someone tells me how to dump the epix rom, I will work on getting a clean rom out to all.
November 18th, 2009 at 4:54 pm
Ugh. I may have spoken too soon about not having trouble after 3 months. Or I jinxed myself.
I started having the volume problem. And then I noticed when I got a notification for messages, and clicked View, it would not open the message program (to view Yahoo mail).
The only thing I had installed recently was the Opera Mobile beta. I have now removed Opera and the problems have gone away, though it’s only been a day.
What about that Opera Mobile browser could trigger these bugs? Hmmm …
November 19th, 2009 at 12:01 am
@ AJ
I think that’s a wise move on your part. My plan is this:
With all the fuss about Snapdragon and Tegra, and with the effort HTC is pouring into the HTC HD2, I’m placing a bet that the HD2 is gonna be upgradeable to WM7 whenever that comes out.
So in the interim, I’m sticking with my Epix (which I love — despite it’s many flaws) until T-Mobile releases the HTC HD2 and my ATT contract runs out. In the meantime, I’d love to put WM6.5 on my Epix. I hope they release it soon!
November 19th, 2009 at 12:12 am
Off topic:
I’m surprised there isn’t a news item about the wm marketplace being available for 6.0 and 6.1 phones now. I just went and started a thread about it in the general discussions area — but hopefully someone adds a news item for it so more people see it.
November 21st, 2009 at 6:30 am
HTC is over rated… actually, I sould say that Qualcomm is. Their processors are weak compared to all of the others out there, at any speed. my Treo 800w was roughly as fast as the Epix’, and was half the speed. I have friends that switched from a 200mhz OMAP HTC to a 600mhz Qualcomm HTC, and they said they were roughly the same speed.
November 21st, 2009 at 11:57 pm
any word on when 6.5 will be officially out?
I’ve manage to stay away from the ID1 firmware upgrade (I think)
When I type *#1234# I get pi907UCHI5 however my phone would crash like crazy
(lights won’t turn back on, phone would freeze during vib incoming call and just keep vibing)
I’m ready for 6.5!!!
my phone is also unlocked, if I flash a ATT 6.5 will this lock my phone up again? does anyone know?
November 23rd, 2009 at 9:46 am
The Samsung Epix features a touch screen and optical mouse that makes device navigation easier. The smartphone also offers Windows Mobile 6.1 and all the wireless fixings (Wi-Fi, HSPDA, Bluetooth, and GPS).
November 23rd, 2009 at 1:47 pm
“The Samsung Epix features a touch screen and optical mouse that makes device navigation easier. The smartphone also offers Windows Mobile 6.1 and all the wireless fixings (Wi-Fi, HSPDA, Bluetooth, and GPS).”
Huh?
November 23rd, 2009 at 8:32 pm
I still haven’t found a way to dump the rom from the samsung epix. As soon as I find out how I will create a post ID1 (sorry) version that takes out ALL of the at&t crap. I will also create a version that has some tweaks added to it along with a plain 6.1 version
November 30th, 2009 at 1:33 am
So is there any news about when windows mobile 6.5 is going to be released? The jack has it, and so do a few others. I just hope that it is still in the works.
November 30th, 2009 at 3:10 am
Over at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544101&page=52 , one of the posters claimed that AT&T gave it a March release. Other than the usual info we’ve already read around the Internet, I personally haven’t seen anything new.
I’ve been running the latest cooked ROM for the past two weeks and it works well with my Epix. Looking forward to the official release.
December 2nd, 2009 at 4:45 pm
It looks like Microsoft updated the list recently. Now one of the other Samsungs has a Dec ‘09 release. Hopefully this is good news for the Epix. I don’t want to wait until March.
December 3rd, 2009 at 5:24 am
Looks like the Samsung strategy is to focus on the two newest phones for the 6.5 upgrade and then finish up with the Epix. And yeah, March would be bit of a wait so it’s probably misinformation posted on the other board; sooner would be better.
December 3rd, 2009 at 1:40 pm
> sooner would be better
You must be new to AT&T and Windows Mobile device updates
December 4th, 2009 at 1:47 am
@pgens: Not new at all, just trying to be optimistic.
December 5th, 2009 at 12:35 am
Wasn’t the official date provided Q4 2009 or was it slipped? They certainly are running out of time. I’m not holding my breath but am holding out some hope fro a pre-Christmas release.
December 7th, 2009 at 6:27 pm
There are no official dates, at least not ones worth counting on. As with all other WinMobile phone updates on AT&T, believe it after you download it and no sooner. What usually happens is a week or two goes by after the “official” date and then they move it a few months out.
December 8th, 2009 at 12:46 am
As long as they do not change their minds. I can live with my EPIX 6.1 for now as I do not have the issues (other than GPS) that many have reported. However, I’m counting on the 6.5 update to hold me off from a phone update until WM7 is out.
December 8th, 2009 at 4:19 pm
Sure, wait as long as you want/can stand it. I have no problem with that, it’s just in my experience you will need to be extremely patient.
In the case of the Blackjack 5 -> 6 wait, we had forums of people using cooked ROMs. And the end product of that was on par or better than what eventually was released to AT&T customers anyway.
December 9th, 2009 at 1:04 am
A cooked ROM from a reputable source can certainly be as good or better than an official release. I experienced that first hand with my Treo 750. In the case of the EPIX though we need an update to the Radio Firmware in addition to WM6.5 in order to fix the GPS issue. And I don’t think any cooked 6.5 ROMs will have that.
December 10th, 2009 at 6:39 am
If someone was able to get a hold of the pre- ID1 radio driver would that fix the issue or would they have to script a new driver all together?
December 16th, 2009 at 12:42 am
It seems the Omnia has a date now, and the Epix was not removed. That’s a good sing.
December 19th, 2009 at 12:40 am
I’m not sure if any one else has this problem with their Epix; when I use my Epix only for 15 minutes it gets super heated and the back of the phone gets horribly hot.
December 19th, 2009 at 1:24 am
@ Joshua: I found that after the ID1 update, I would encounter the hot back after trying to use the GPS and device.exe would throttle the CPU to over 50 percent. (I changed this by changing the setting in gpstest.exe). When you experience the hot back, check your processes to see if device.exe it spiking. If not, then perhaps it’s a hardware issue. Hopefully it’s still under warranty.

[...] Samsung Epix gets the official Windows Mobile 6.5 nod | My Samsung … [...]
December 20th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
Here’s my “two cents” on this whole Samsung EPIX (i907) update situation.
First off, they put an update out there (ID1) to fix some bugs. Unfortunately, it may have fixed a few bugs, but it rendered our standalone GPS useless. For those people, like me, that don’t use a data network on teh phone, but used the GPS, what do we do?
Fortunately, I do have a SquareTrade warranty on my phone, and will revert to the warranty if they do not fix the GPS problem, or offer 6.5 within the next month or so.
I spoe with AT&T, Microsoft, and Samsung, on Friday. Neither person could tell me anything about the i907 and Windows Mobile 6.5. What has happened to Customer Service? People read from screens, and are practically robots. Half the time, you can’t understand them, or can’t hear them.
December 20th, 2009 at 2:56 pm
What I was getting at, inmy previous post. Microsoft, Samsung, whomever…. Should be responsible to fix this problem, even though it’s been lng enough, or replace the phones. I know it would never get t that extent, but just a thought.
December 21st, 2009 at 6:32 pm
Justin,
This is the reason why I will be hesitant to get another Samsung/AT&T phone in the future. Their customer service has been horrible. And not replacing our phone with a comparable unit unless we prove the Epix fails on the 3rd unit try? I don’t have time for that garbage. Forget Samsung. At this point I may drop AT&T altogether. I’m just holding out hope the new version will resolve the bugs.

I’m with you there. I run my EPIX on Centennial Wireless. AT&T and Centennial are merging. I get great service, but when it comes to hardware / billing support, they just read off of a screen. Might as well have 16-year-old running the Customer Service departments.
Anyone have any updates for teh release? I’m awaiting anxiously, just like 50 million others…

As of today (12/29) Microsoft has put in an upgrade date of Feb. 2010 for the Epix per the website. Longer than expected, but hopefully it’s worth the wait.

I hope it’s early Feb rather than late Feb. I’ve already decided I’m getting an HTC HD2 (breaking contract with AT&T about 6 months early) as soon as it releases on T-Mobile. I hope I get at least 1 month to use 6.5 on my Epix before that.
Until then, dare I hope that the new ROM will be more performant, fix the GPS lock delay and battery drain issue, and stop that infernal on-screen keyboard from popping up..

Woah woah woah guys! Let’s not get too excited about the published February date on the site. It seems like Microsoft has been publishing dates initially only to change them to a later date later on. At the time I am writing this, this, the HTC Omnia still says December 2009, that’s less than 48 hours left to go. I’ll keep my fingers crossed to hopefully see something by February 28th, 2010 but I’m not going to lose any sleep in anticipation.

Now the website says April 2010! Was Microsoft not done or is AT&T/Samsung just dragging their heals in releasing it? Of course if they are holding it until it is bug free that is fine by me. I would rather get it at some later date and be bug free than to get it now.

To everyone as frustrated and angry has i’am by the way htc is neglecting the owners of the htc hd2 go ahead and post your petition on the following blog (http://windowsphone7updatehtchd.blogspot.com/). lets make ourselfs be heard since we have the hardware and htc sense only makes sense while disguising the flaws of the native windows mobile explorer menus and windows designed for resistive screens. let us show them we paid to get some supporta nd that means the proper hardware support wich they chose not to gives for some reason and the apps our devices have never seen due to the poor experience of wm 6.5 on thi device
