Remove AT&T Fn Shortcuts

Download

As you’ve probably noticed, AT&T loaded your Samsung Epix up with a bunch of junk like that AT&T Mall, AT&T Music, etc. One of the slightly less annoying things they did was hard code some preset Fn-key shortcuts to these programs. Not only can this cause you to accidently launch these apps, but it also prevents you from using the preset Fn key combinations to launch other apps that you might actually use.

This hacks removes 4 of AT&T’s preset shortcuts so can make them link to anything you like.

This hack removes the following AT&T Fn Shortcuts.

  • Fn-C: AT&T Mall
  • Fn-M AT&T Music
  • Fn-V: Cingular Video
  • Fn-W: Media Net

Remote AT&T Fn Shortcuts

After installing this hack, go to Start > Settings > Personal tab > FN Key Settings and set the C, M, V and W buttons to link to anything you like!

I left the AT&T preset B, H and N Fn-key mappings because I thought they were actually useful (Bluetooth On/Off, Headset Manager and Mouse On/Off).

Everyone should be aware thatn this hack removes the shortcuts applied to the following hardware keys:
    1. The calendar key
    2. The slient key
    3. the messaging key

The program only has buttons for FN+[A-Z] keys. If you are used to using the messaging key like I am, this hack will be very disappointing.

@ Rich W. You may be able to reassign those by going into the Buttons under Start>Settings>Personal Tab.

Some other hack here caused the same problem but I was able to correct it by first selecting another function and then switching back to the correct function. I ended up having to reassign my messaging, calendar and internet/mediaweb key. But they worked afterwards. Why the camera key doesn’t seem to be affected is beyond me.

Does anyone know of a hack or app to set the hardware keys (Globe/Browser, Calendar, Message etc.) to other apps?

    Never mind. *head slap*

After applying the Samsung fix. this program locks all function key settings.

    Anyone else have this problem?

Any idea how to remap the Slient button to toggle to Vibrate instead?

  8. roberto Says:

@ Michael; same thing happened; once you set the function keys, you can’t change them

  9. roberto Says:

    @Michael, workaround:

uninstall the app, in order to make changes to the locked FunctionKeys. uninstalling will only erase those apps set to the Fn-C; Fn-M; Fn-V; Fn-W.

after making the changes, re-install app to regain access to the C, M, V, W, keys.

    all other changes will remain.

Can anyone tell me how to get rid of Att Mall, music, Mobi Tv and others, or at least hide them. along with some of the other useless garbage? Thanks

How about doing this through an editable INI file (or something like that), so that only the desired keystrokes will be deleted (or recreated)? Is this as simple as altering or deleting registry entries, and if so, which ones?
