I have updated the images in the cab file, so it displayes a standard windows mobile 6.5 logo at the startup.

Works great in 6.5, except it says you are loading 6.1 due to the dummy imagine it uses.

FYI... I downloaded this cab file directly to my phone and ran it from there. It works perfectly and you don't need to use ActiveSync to get it over.

Cheers

How I installed the “Clean-Startup-And-Shutdown” CAB file to eliminate the AT&T startup and shutdown splash screen on the EPIX:

Go to the web address:

http://www.mysamsungepix.com/hacks-and-mods/other-hacks-and-mods/silent-startup-and-shutdown/comment-page-1/#comment-381

Left click on “Download”
Left click on “Save”
When the pop-up “Save As” appears, select to save in: “Desktop”
Left click on “Save”
When the pop-up “Download Complete” appears, left click on “Close”
Attach the Epix to your computer via the USB cable and activate ActiveSync
On the computer:
On the desktop, right click on the “Clean-Startup-And-Shutdown” CAB file
Left click on “Cut” or “Copy”
	Right click on “Start”
Left click on “Explore > Mobile Device > My Windows Mobile-Based Device > My Documents”
	Right click on “My Documents”
	Left click on “Paste”

On the Epix:
Go to “Start > Programs > Applications> File Explorer”
	Click on the “Clean-Startup…” file
	Follow the onscreen prompts.
When prompted to choose a location to install, I selected “Device”
	Click “Install > Ok”
The Epix will self perform a shutdown and restart, without the splash screens!

If you want, go back and delete the CAB file from the “My Documents” file.

This sight has proven to be very helpful. I had a BJ1 and hacked it all up to just the way I needed it...and then the battery power issue got the best of me when I had to replace a battery every 2 hours. That was about 1 1/2 years ago and for the life of me I cannot recall how to install a download into my new Epix.

Will someone please provide more detailed instruction on how to install this download into my new Epix.

Thanks a million,

Lots of questions for a guy that gave you something free. All CAB files can be opened with WinRAR, etc. I do it with everything I download before installing it to my phone. All this does is copy files to a folder. The files are 2 blank wav files and 2 gif files that are the same image as the Green Win Mobile logo you see on booting. This not only answers your question, but explains why you see the Win Mobile logo. You could make a black 320x320 gif and replace the ones in the CAB to have no screens if you need. Making cab files is a little complicated though, although you should have MakeCab.exe already with Windows and can lookup how to do it.

Hi David,

I'm using Epix, and that hack works on all Windows Mobile phones (because it's a WM setting); there are other links that talk about it working with other Samsung phones (although I can't remember if any were Epix....). While that link mentions HTC, the LINK is for all of PocketPC/WM. (The HTC stuff talks about how to disable the HTC-specific logo via registry settings, just like this hack disables the Samsung/AT&T logo -- apparently Samsung/AT&T have conspired to put it somewhere un-obvious.)

Anyway, I used those registry mods successfully on my Epix before I applied (or ever knew about) this "remove [Samsung/AT&T] animation" hack (which, may I say, is better than sliced bread, of which I am quite fond!). Now that I have applied this hack, suddenly, I have the Windows Mobile startup and shutdown screens again -- something about the hack means WM is no longer looking at those registry locations to figure out what (if anything) to use for startup/shutdown. If I remove the hack, I still have WM startup/shutdown.

I did a hard reset last night (down to factory install and back up again) and have reverified that installation of this hack invalidates the use of the WM startup/shutdown registry entries.

So, Unnamed Beautiful Person who put together the hack: Is the hack simply just registry values, and if so, which ones? Or is it making mods to the ROM or doing something more involved? (If the latter, that scares me -- it would be nice if all these "hacks" indicate if they're really hacks or simply altering registry entries, and if so which ones.)

Mdeck, The link you posted is for HTC phones -- The Samsung Epix is a Samsung phone, so i don't think that has any relevance. Are you using a Samsung Epix or a different phone? I've only confirmed this hack works on the Samsung Epix.
