Remove ascending ring
Attention: This hack overwrites the Samsung E-mail Notification Patch. Until an work around is discovered, you’ll have to choose between the two.
Have no fear, the days of missed calls due to Samsung’s ascending ring have come to an end!
Stephen has come to the rescue with the NonEscalatingRing.CAB that makes your Samsung Epix’s rings start at full volume.
Thanks for the heads up on this one Stephen, everyone with a Samsung Epix is forever in your debt!

Sweet! I just installed this and it works like a champ!
February 26th, 2009 at 6:50 pm
AWESOME. I (along with everyone else with an Epix) have been looking for this fix since day 1.
February 26th, 2009 at 9:13 pm
Hey FYI – this patch breaks the email notification patch from SAMSUNG. After installing this new patch, I no longer get email alerts. Both patches contain a file, wavedev.dll – the ring patch one must not have the fix for email notifications…
February 26th, 2009 at 10:09 pm
I am so glad to have this mod! I can now say that the Epix is the best mobile phone I’ve had in years.
February 26th, 2009 at 11:36 pm
great! best thing since the epix!
February 27th, 2009 at 2:07 am
yes it works, but sadly it kills the Email Notification Patch. Basically you have to choose between missing a call or missing a new email.. hah..
February 27th, 2009 at 3:27 am
I have heard this doesn’t work together with the message notification fix and breaks the other fix. Can anyone confirm they both work together?
February 27th, 2009 at 12:27 pm
Thanks! What a wonderful website for Epix owners by the way!
February 27th, 2009 at 1:25 pm
about damn time, yessir………..thanks
February 27th, 2009 at 3:34 pm
Can anyone provide the original wavedev.dll file? If the ring fix was a simple hack on this, the same hack might be able to be applied to the Samsung’s new file. But I’d have to reset my device to get the original…
(
February 27th, 2009 at 3:39 pm
Could you extract the wavedev.dll file from the email fix cab, and insert it into the ringer fix cab? Would that allow both to work?
February 27th, 2009 at 4:11 pm
Has anyone got any new info about this patch coexisting with the email notification patch? I don’t want to install if it it means missing emails, as some are reporting here.
February 27th, 2009 at 4:29 pm
Jerramy, If you uninstall this hack and the Samsung Email Notification Hack, the wavedev.dll left on your Samsung Epix should be the original one.
February 27th, 2009 at 9:57 pm
This is wonderful, just installed it and it works great. I dont use the email so its not a problem for me.
February 27th, 2009 at 11:06 pm
It doesn’t show up at all if I Explore through ActiveSync.
Any bright ideas for how I can get access to this file?
February 28th, 2009 at 12:02 am
Apparently certain ROM files (in MODULES group) can’t be touched, copied, renamed, stiffed, tickled, or in any other way be accessed. I wish Stephen could share how he got his original copy (a ROM dump?).
February 28th, 2009 at 1:19 am
if you uninstall this mod, will the email one work or do i have to reinstall it?
February 28th, 2009 at 7:57 am
Many many thanks!!!
February 28th, 2009 at 5:09 pm
I tried this mod and it seems to work fine, I have Samsuns’s update and the Zenyee Notif Blinker. I had to play with some of the setting to make it work the way I liked. I use Outlook and Hotmail Ring and vibrate works for all notifations the only thing that dosent work is the screen back light for my Hotmail account. Has this worked for anyone else the same way?
March 3rd, 2009 at 4:21 am
this is a grest app!! No more missed calls.. That fixd my #1 complaint about my Epix.. guess Ill have to look harder lol… TY
March 4th, 2009 at 5:55 am
My Samsung email notification works most of the time (>90%) even with this ‘remove ascending ring’ installed. Occasionally, I do not get an email notification but if I happen to have another email arrive real close to the time the first unnotified one, then I get the email notification for both emails. Not perfect but I am not complaining.

Has anyone tried pulling the wavedev.dll from a blackjack II
March 15th, 2009 at 10:40 pm
Sorry to be such a dolt, but how do you install this on the phone?
I saved it to my desktop on the PC
Pluged the phone in, got ActiveSync open
Clicked on Explore in AS
Went to Desktop
Clicked on nonescalatingring.cab
Clicked setup.xml
It opens a Select a Destination window
Clicked the + on My Computer, but the Mobile Device doesn’t appear there…
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks
March 16th, 2009 at 12:00 am
I can’t seem to get the download to work for the ring fix. It gets downloaded, saved, I click on set-up, save and nothing happens.
March 16th, 2009 at 2:17 am
Lois and RLM55, Please read the post under “The Basics” on “How to install a CAB file” .. You are unzipping the CAB file before copying it to your phone. DO NOT UNZIP CAB FILES!!! Just copy the CAB file to your phone and run the CAB file from there.
March 16th, 2009 at 5:13 am
Thanks David
I used the phone to download it straight in, couldn’t figure out how to save it to a PC then copy it to the phone
April 15th, 2009 at 4:09 pm
OK, so that worked and its great but after I lengthened my ring to 30 seconds I can handle the ascending ring. I removed the ascending ring cab but still don’t get my email notifications anymore. Also, after adding a few other cabs and then removing them, I lost the function of the messaging and calendar buttons on the bottom row. Any ideas on how to get these back? This website is great by the way!
April 15th, 2009 at 5:24 pm
So, I used the hack. And my ringtones are all very quiet. They don’t escalate to max volume, because in my phone settings when I play them, they’re incredibly loud…
April 20th, 2009 at 4:56 pm
does anyone know if this works on the blackjack II???
April 21st, 2009 at 4:38 pm
Thank you Thank you, I have used this site to make my blackjack2 a great phone, and now I am using it to make my Epix an even greater one.
Thanks for the great info, I just installed the ascending ring fix, it took a total of about 5 minutes from download to active sync transfer to installation. It works great! Every other tip solved problems also.
Even though a small amount, I just donated some bucks, sites like this need support, thanks, Ed

nick – This will not work on the Blackjack II.
May 2nd, 2009 at 5:25 am
I cannot get this bloody cab file loaded.. I have the zipped version on my Epix, can find it, click on it and looks like it starts to install.. then tells me I have to restart the phone to finish installation. When I do.. nothing changes. There is not a new application available to launch. I’ve gone around in circles about 5 times. Do I need load winzip or something??
May 5th, 2009 at 12:38 am
jstew – after the phone resets the hack is installed! you dont need to do anything else. You can check to see if the hack is installed by looking in Start > Settings > System > Remove Programs > samsung nonEscalatingRing .. If that entry exists in the “Remove Programs” menu then the hack is installed.

Hello, can someone post what changes this cab actually makes, so that I can modify my propel pro with the same issue? Thanks.

May 24th, 2009 at 12:51 am
Just installed….so far so good =)
May 30th, 2009 at 12:44 am
I believe you won’t have to install this hack after the new ID1 software update because the update fixes the ascending ring issue.
June 12th, 2009 at 1:18 pm
Will this fix the Samsung Propel Pro as well? I just got the phone but have not opened it. I want to return it and get another cell phone like Noki E71x. Has anyone tried it on the Propel Pro? Thanks

I want to put together a lawsuit against AT&T. They sell phones knowing they are bad. Anyone who wants to get in on it should contact me at this email. I was given a Samsung Epix and after complaining about all the issues they played dumb to I caught them partially due to sites like yours. Companies need to be responsible for what they are selling. People should contact me with make model and common problem with there phone. When they bought it.
September 13th, 2009 at 10:12 pm

Cause all other rintones are extremely loud, but my in-coming call ringtones is almost hearable, please help with step by step instructions!!!

WHAT THE HELL IS ASSUMPTION CHILD TALKIN ABOUT?
May 20th, 2010 at 5:32 pm
He is probably talking about the slog dump issue with Epix. At&t had limited info on their site about it, but deny any knowledge of it over the phone. Meanwhile I love my Epix and I loved my Blackjack I had before, but I don’t think I will buy another Samsung product based on their response to the issue. When I called them they acted as if they had never heard of the issue. When a little searching on the internet gives you a boat load of info on it. If they made a mistake fine, then they should fix it, not lie to their customers. And asking someone in this day in age who uses a phone like this to just give it up and go without for a few week while you wait on another one in the mail that when it comes is less functional then the one you shipped off. Bottom line to keep customers you need to stand behind your product, and never lie to your customers!
