Samsung Epix Application Unlocker
Unlocking your Samsung Epix is a crucial to maximizing your mobile phone experience. Application unlocking your smartphone allows you to:
- Modify restricted files/folders
- Modify restricted registry entries
- Install certain applications you would otherwise be prevented from installing
Application unlocking your Samsung Epix can be completely reversed/un-done by performing a factory reset (which will wipe everything off your Epix and revert it back to its initial state). Many of the hacks and mods on this Web site require your Epix to be application unlocked.
Restart your Samsung Epix after installing the Application Unlocker.
Note: Application unlocking your phone does NOT allow your phone to be used on a different carrier; that is SIM unlocking.

January 4th, 2009 at 5:10 pm
parkjeo,
Read the post on “How to install a CAB file”.. it should clear everything up for you.

January 4th, 2009 at 11:46 pm
has anybody noticed if this actually does anything? it’s just a wap-provisioningdoc.
January 5th, 2009 at 10:32 pm
Does this also unlock the VPN capability?
January 6th, 2009 at 1:54 am
Nik, Nope – thought the application unlocker for the Epix may allow you to make the registry/file changes needed to unlock the VPN capability (I have no idea what it takes to unlock VPN or if its even possible on the Epix)
January 6th, 2009 at 11:29 am
Did you folks do a soft reset after installing? I now have My Work Network showing on the Tasks tab of Settings > Connections in order to set up the IPSec VPN. That was most assuredly not there before.
Now, if I could only get the VPN to actually work…….
January 6th, 2009 at 7:41 pm
fishegg, I think i did after I ran the app unlocker.
January 9th, 2009 at 4:02 pm
I Installed it per the instructions for installing cab files but i cant find it on the epix under applications. Any ideas?
January 9th, 2009 at 4:26 pm
Skypiper, The Application Unlocker doesnt show up under applications. its just a series of registry hacks that are made when its installed.
January 9th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
i got it, had to download via phone and install and works perfectly
January 9th, 2009 at 8:09 pm
Can this be used on the att tilt aka htc 8925?
January 9th, 2009 at 8:10 pm
Crap, i meant to ask if the internet sharing hack can be used on the htc
January 15th, 2009 at 9:41 pm
Will this unlocker allow me to uninstall all of the junk that came on this phone?
January 16th, 2009 at 3:25 am
Dru Bob, it may help you remove some protected files for your file system — theres only one way to fine out though!
January 23rd, 2009 at 7:21 am
I am wondering if ATT didnt do something different to the Internet Sharing program since i downloaded the unlocker file and followed the instructions to installing it however I didnt see the choice of network connection in the Internet Sharing program. HAve you heard of this problem?
February 23rd, 2009 at 3:30 pm
This no longer works best I can tell…installed it and rebooted numerous times. I still can not edit the registry.
February 23rd, 2009 at 7:40 pm
Chad – are you unable to edit the registry using an on-phone registry editor like PHM RegEdit?
March 16th, 2009 at 12:43 am
No matter how many times I try to install this it never seems to do anything. I Cant use Internet sharing and it doesn’t show up in remove apps.
March 16th, 2009 at 2:30 am
Ignore my earlier comments I need to read closer. It works fine I didn’t realize there was another program I had to download to get internet sharing working.
March 25th, 2009 at 3:22 pm
hey all…..will be getting my samsung epix tomorrow and was wondering what exactly i need to do to be able to tether my epix on my dell notebook after installing this hack…….any help will be appreciated greatly
March 26th, 2009 at 8:15 am
So I’m still unsure how to delete stuff like the games… I have the uninstaller , installed so what now?
March 26th, 2009 at 1:25 pm
saeid, Just download/copy this hack’s CAB file to your Epix, install the CAB and the follow the instructions. its pretty easy!
March 26th, 2009 at 1:29 pm
Travis – are you talking about games that came with your Samsung Epix, or games that you downloaded and installed?
The games that came pre-installed on your Samsung Epix are harder to remove, though you should be able to remove the shortcuts to them in your Start menu by Opening File Explorer > My Device > Windows > Start Menu > Programs > Games, and then tap-and-hold on the game you want to delete and select “Delete” … This will delete the shortcut.
April 2nd, 2009 at 7:19 pm
I don’t think this is working anymore, either. I am downloading the cab to my Epix, installing it using the built-in explorer on the phone (says installed successfully), and soft booting by removing the battery (also tried power cycling). It does not show up under “remove programs” and internet connection sharing is not working.
April 11th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
I downloaded and installed a few times, come to find out…my phone was fully unlocked out of the box…except for internet sharing (absolutely wonderful hack) after several hard resets, I realized that this hack is not for all Epix phones, luck of the draw I guess. I was able to delete, modify files without this hack. The hack caused all sorts of issues, I.e. my appointment screen would come up every 5 mins on the dot, weird solitaire money, contcts would not store some info, screen lock, app lock, end user software incompatibility. Either it needs to go back to the drawing board or u have to live with various different quirks.
April 14th, 2009 at 8:40 pm
Cm – sorry to hear this one cause your samsung epix so much trouble
April 16th, 2009 at 11:30 am
hi im jay i got an unlocked phone but my wifi doesnt work..help pls….
April 23rd, 2009 at 1:07 pm
jay – in what sense doesnt it work? are wifi networks not being detected or can you not connect? are you verifying that the wifi networks arent security enabled (and if they are, youre providing the correct authentication credentials)?
May 3rd, 2009 at 3:51 am
This was the easiest thing I have ever done…from the point I got my phone out of the box and had my phone tethered was about one minute.
May 4th, 2009 at 6:46 am
thanks for the reply davitd. i cannot connect even if my wifi indicator says “connected”.ill appreciate instructions..thanks in advance
May 7th, 2009 at 3:46 am
downloaded cab to my phone and ran it, says successfully installed. popped battery and rebooted. Nothing changed. still don’t have option to switch to media net. Hack doesn’t show up in remove programs. I was able to delete the registry using the total commander though.

So I guess Im one of the unlucky folks who this application unlocker hack doesn’t work for. I was hoping to adjust my internet connection settings so I could share my data plan with emails from my laptop with wmwifirouter instead of the usb cable. Seems like att and or samsung did something on newer models to disable this hack. Is anyone working on another work around for this? cant seem to make any good changes because I cant edit the registry.
May 12th, 2009 at 8:40 pm
The download link leads to another web page.
Is the link now broken?
May 15th, 2009 at 2:23 pm
I got my epix yesterday, i’ve downloaded the cab via phone. I found the file via file explorer. when I try to install the cab I get “the installation of samsung epix application unlocker.cab was unsuccessful”….. any ideas?
May 15th, 2009 at 2:50 pm
ok, nevermind. I was attempting to download and install the cab using the skyfire browser. I came back to this page using PIE and I was able to download and install the cab.
May 16th, 2009 at 7:05 pm
RJ – I just verified that the Download Link works. The full path to the unlocker is:

David,
Thanks! I went through a DOH moment there. I kept clicking the link and it took me to your other pages.
Did a right click and save and got it. Thanks.
Wonder if you can help me on another point:
My ‘camera’ button (bottom right, second from right button) has started, all of a sudden, to give me an error: “Error opening the shortcut or locating the target filename”.
I went into Start>Settings>Buttons and tried to reassign the application to the ‘Camera’ button. But the ‘Camera’ shortcut does not show in the “2. Assign a program” drop down list.
The Camera shortcut exists and works fine via my Start>Application>Camera.
Any ideas how to get the ‘Camera’ shortcut to the “2. Assign a Program” menu to get the button working again?
Thanks!

I had the same problem. I have no idea what happend. I did a hard reset and it came back.
June 5th, 2009 at 5:07 pm
RJ,
I had the same issue regarding the Camera shortcut. What worked for me was a hard reset. Once I completed the hard reset, the camera button started working again.

Anyone know for sure if the application unlocker is still usable after 1D1? I used it to install GPS Proxy previously without any issues. Now, I can’t get GPS Proxy to work so wondering if the unlocker failed to unlock this time around.
July 2nd, 2009 at 6:25 am
I DL’ed this file and installed it, everything said it all completed successfully, but nothing changed. It did not show up in the remove programs, it didnt give me the extra option to connect to media net in the connection sharing area. So I went into the registry and deleted the forceCellConnection key like someone here said and boom there is my internet sharing connection box! I didn’t even have to soft reboot or anything.
Thanx to people here at this site and a few other resources I can now share my data connection with my laptop just about anywhere!
Question here…I forget where, but I read something about GPS other than ATT Tel Nav not functioning on an unlocked Epix, is this true? I installed Google Maps and it works fine, I am wondering if the unlocker actually did do something so Google maps functions?
August 7th, 2009 at 9:53 pm
i downloaded this to my phone and when i try to install it say unsucsessful. im not sure what to do to unlock now. i also tried the modaco gps activator hack and nothing… it will install but i cant install the epix tether hack cab after it also says unsucseful. just so its out there i updated the phone with samsung Id1 patch (or whatever its called) can anyone help me out?
August 8th, 2009 at 12:44 pm
nevermind- i downloaded rosco file explorer/registry editor and deleted the forcecell connection key and am typing this now on my laptop so either this program loaded or rosco did it for me just fine
August 13th, 2009 at 2:31 am
In regards to the camera shortcut problem – Ive had it happen to me, and the only time it seems to happen is when i go to the buttons modifier in the settings tab. It seems that just opening the modifier erases the shortcut for the camera, and after a couple hard resets, its my recommendation that you dont mess with the button shortcuts, or even open the button modifier until its fixed.

Will this hack work if I’m already upgraded to WM6.5?
September 10th, 2009 at 5:42 am
will this work for the samsung propel pro? I’m trying to tether internet. I used to do thru my blackjack 2 and it worked perfectly, now i can’t figure out how to tether on my propel pro…
September 10th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
I downloaded the CAb, but I still get the messages that says that “the remote party has ended this connection”
and I dont have anything on my connections screen other that the USB connection icon.
Any ideas?
September 13th, 2009 at 1:44 pm
I copied the cab over but it doesn’t show up in the remove applications list and I don’t have a choice in the internet sharing section. Is there a security provision that I have to remove. I have tried to use CeRegistryEditor to remove the forcecell command but it says it can’t do it. What do I do now?
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:18 am
I have a propel pro & attempted to dload & install this on my actual browsing app on my phone & also by computer, I have no idea what to do or where to go to from here, I am a hacking virgin so to speak, so I need help

Hi when I try to install on my Epix I get file was not successfully installed. I updgraded to the new rom, (the one that stops the escalating ring problem) Could this be the problem? Perhaps another program I have installed?
Thanks,
Dennis

This does not work anymore. But, deleted “ForcedCellConnection” under “HLM/\Comm\InternetSharing\settings” and rebooted. I am posting this using my epix’s connection via Bluetooth PAN.
I used Total Commander reg editer. http://www.ghisler.com/pocketpc.htm

My Camera button isn’t assigned all of sudden. And Camera isn’t in the list to assign? What gives? Anyone know how to fix? Thanks
February 11th, 2010 at 2:57 am
Does this hack work anymore? We have two epix, I tried them on both. It says the software is installed, but when I reset the phone and then look into the remove software menu, I don’t see it as listed.
I am also trying to delete the ForceCellConnection key, but I am getting access denied error. Any suggestions?
February 25th, 2010 at 10:49 am
Just curious if you where aware of how I can unlock the SIM Lock on my epix without having to talk to At&T. Is there any sources out there that either does it for free or cheap?
