I recently misplaced my Getting Started CD and purchased a new one online. I installed the drivers but my laptop doesn't recognize my phone claiming it malfunctioned. What can I do in order to let my laptop recognize the usb?

Yes, you need the modem drivers from the samsung page, and Active Sync.  If tethering you also need the patch from here that deletes the key in the registry that limits to Cell Proxy only and allows you to select MediaNet and get internet on laptop through phone…otherwise the AT&T Proxy that is default disconnects you.
