How fast should the 3G network be?

Using the Epix with IE I was not impressed, in fact it was very disappointing.  I loaded Opera 9.5 and that is much better, BUT it's still very slow.  This is the only 3G device I've ever used so I don't know if this is normal or not.  Surfing to a variety of websites, it seems to take 5 or 10 seconds to load a website, maybe more.  My PC with cable internet or DSL will load these pages almost instantly.

5 or 10 seconds sound reasonable for 3G to me.  Mobile pages load very fast, but full version websites take a little bit longer.  3G is much faster than previous technology, but still not as fast as cable internet would be.  It also will depend on the signal strength.  The more bars you have the faster it will load.

Also make sure you are actually on the 3G network.  Do you have a 3G symbol?  If you are outside of a large city changes are you are on the slower Edge network, and will have an E symbol instead.
