So I have a BT headset, and far too often (between 5% and 10% of calls), in the middle of a call, the headset all of a sudden stops working.  When I look at the phone, the call is still active, and I can get back to the call through the handset.

I've never tried looking while the call is still active (because, well, I'm taking business calls!), but when the call is over, I look at the battery indicator on the headset — green; so that's not it (phone is sometimes on plenty of battery, sometimes connected to power).  Then I look at the “wireless manager:” BT is turned off.  Curious.  From there to BT settings “mode” tab, and the check box for “turn on Bluetooth” is UNCHECKED.  Huh?  Wuh?

This has happened both at my desk (where I have good signal) and in the car.  Does not seem to be phone-signal-related.

I suspect this is a problem with Windows Mobile, but the AT&T guy I talked to (who, I admit, was not the brightest bulb) tried to convince me it was because of an ice storm somewhere (not at my house or within 20 miles of it), or bad connection to the network (um, helLO: this BT PAN is not all of 3 feet in diameter; and the call doesn't drop), and a few other things before I gave up on him.

This is Epix phone plus Moto H15 BT headset.  (The headset has been replaced, and the issue is consistent across both instances.  Could be the headset, since I've got the same model.)

Anyone else having this issue?  It's driving me nuts, and is very bad for my business….  Google search has not turned up anything useful.  (Either waaaaay too many hits, or not enough.)

Have not had any problems with my Blueant headset disconnecting.  Have you tried deleting the bluetooth partnership from the Epix and resetting the headset and then starting over again and re-pairing?

Got to love the diagnostic capabilities to the customer-no-service reps.  They'll say anything to end the call and keep their volume stats high.

This is persistent across partnerships, but good thought, thanks.  Next? ;)

mdeck – do you have access to another bluetooth headset you could try? Maybe the Moto H15 just doesnt like the Samsung Epix ..?

I ditched the Moto H15 for a Plantronics (don't know the model, but nice jobbie with carrying case that can also recharge the headset).  I haven't been using it long enough to know if it has the problem or not, will report back when I have more data…

Please do.  I have a Plantronics 510 and not too thrilled with the Bluetooth on the phone. I know the headset is superb based on ratings at Amazon, Consumer Reports and consistent use with my Treo 750.

I just ordered a Motorola headset with Bluetooth 2.0 to see if that would fix the issue.

Ullal, are you having the same issue with your Plantronics?  If so, then it's definitely an issue with the phone/software and not the headset….

mdeck,

Tough one to answer.  I seemed to drop many calls while on bluetooth.  So I wasn't sure if it was just the phone or bluetooth.  Considering that this is at home where I never have a problem with my Treo 750 I am not sure what to make of it.  I haven't dropped any calls while hand holding the phone so I have some doubts about the bluetooth implementation.  Sent phone in for replacement so have to wait before I can test some more.  Awful phone that would be awesome if Samsung responded to all these issues with a high quality fix.  Somehow I have doubts about their software engineers ability to do that.

Hi All,

Since switching to a Plantronics headset (model number escapes me…), I have not had the issue with calls dropping.  It seems to be something either on the Moto H15 headset itself, or between that headset and the Epix.

I have only had bluetooth turn off when I tether for internet on my laptop…not sure why, but it does.  Other than that all I get is the random 30sec delay in connecting every couple days…never dropping bluetooth in the middle of a call though.
