Are you trying to connect to a secure network, with a WEP Key that needs to be entered?

also, is the WIFI module actually turned on, via START – SETTINGS – CONNECTIONS – WIRELESS MANAGER ? WIFI module is by default turned off to preserve power.

yeah the module is on and I connected with a secure network and it didnt work so I changed my router settings to a open, non-secure network to see it if helps and still it connects fast and easy, but when I go to the internet it doesn't work. I don't know if it is just me or what but it will connect but wont work.

sounds like a routing problem…also what webbrowser were you using to go online ? (hopefully not the Mobile IE – it's core engine is based on the Desktop Internet Explorer 4 – yes, thats right “four”, not 5, nor 6 nor 7 – stone-age old 4 details here http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20081112-hands-on-ie-mobile-6-is-better-than-current-ie-mobile.html )
I can hook up fine, although i do not run an open network but do not run any WEP encrypted network either; mine is MAC access controlled. its easier to crack a WEP encryption than spoofing a HW MAC, especially when the “hacker” has no access to the MAC access list per sey
anyway, w. MAC Acess control i can connect just peachy.
Also keep in mind that many “open WIFI ports” in gasstations or cafeterias redirect you first to a “accept our TOS/TOC first before we let you in” that may contain heavily CSS/JAVA/FLASH scripted features that the mobile webbrowser cant handle to accept and get pass such initial pages.

ok are you connecting to a secure network,
and if you are then put in the pass,
and then try this.
1. settings
2. Connections
3. Wi-Fi
4.Menu soft key
5.Advanced
6. Turn off Wi-Fi if not connected in:
7. Switch it to NEVER.
That could be your solution?

I know this post is a bit old, but I think that the original questioner is probably using the built in IExplorer whcih defaults to the ATT device homepage. In order to use WIFI for the std web browser, you need to go to Settings>Connections>Proxy and make sure that you are NOT using the proxy server when using WIFI. It's a PIA but you have to switch the proxy required back and forth when switching between WIFI and wireless.

thanks alot:) I ended up installing opera and that works just fine. I'm at home alot so I cancelled my data plan and use my wireless home network for free. It may be cheap but the internet is faster… and its free

beachdog, are you sure you have to switch between using a Proxy when using IExplorer with WIFI and Wireless? The first thing I did was set mine to “OFF” and I can use IE on wireless or WIFI just fine???
