Start>Programs>Organizer>Alarms>click on the alarm you want to set>click tone and set the MP3 you want to use as your ringtone. I would put in a screen shot but something got messed up sorry.
So basically its in the area where you actually set an alarm. If your using any other program that allows you to set alarms IE: mobile shell or another type of organizer than its not going to translate over to the alarm program that came standard with the phone. So just use the alarm program that came with the phone.

i'm trying to figure this out too…doesn't seem to be an option for alarms in the sound notification menu…

If you save your MP3 in my device/Application Data/Sounds then your MP3 will appear in the Notification list.

i was just clicking the clock on the today screen and using the alarm that took me to
