I posted this in another thread – but ill post it here too.
Careace wrote up a nice piece on how to ONLY use WiFi for data connectivity. This prevents you from accidently using data and getting charged for it if you dont have unlimited data plan.

Is there an easy way to disable Data through the wireless carrier while keeping WiFi enabled — eseentially forcing all data to ONLY use WiFi?
This seems like it would be incredible handy for those people that don't have unlimited wireless plans.
Thanks

“Go to the wireless manager and turn off the “phone” part of the Epix. Then turn on WiFi. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to receive calls or text messages, but it’s a 100% fool-proof way that the carrier won’t charge you.“
John, is there any way to do it while letting your Epix receive/send phone calls and sms messages?
Something like the MoDaCo No Data app perhaps?

Modaco NoData app works, but you can try this also:
Touch the signal bar on your task bar then Wireless Manager, click menu on the right soft key and choose Disconnect Cellular Data. That should disable the ATT GPSR/Edge data and allow you to use Wifi, phone, SMS as normal.

You were able to get MoDaCo NoData to work on the Samsung Epix? I disabled all the data modes in it and could still access the internet with WiFi disabled… ?? Also, I assume Disconnect Cellular Data doesn’t persist through restarts.. any idea if toggles something in the registry?

I know the Nodata works on the BlackjackII as I did that for my wife's phone. I have not tried it on the Epix yet since I have unlimit data plan. You are right that you have to Disable cellular data everytime the phone is restarted. I do not know of a registry hack for this. Sorry.

I got a quick question that fits into this topic… Is there any sort of way to automatically check the proxy box when you do hook to a wireless connection. It's just a little bit of a hassle to remember to go and check the box or uncheck the box.

snickolaz, are you sure you have to toggle that check box? I have it unchecked and use IE on WiFi and regular cellular data connection. Try testing it out .. im pretty sure you can leave it unchecked and have it work on your AT&T data plan.

Yeah it works with my data plan when it's unchecked. I was just wondering if there was an option or a way to make it automatically use the wifi when I connect to a wifi connection instead of me having to check the box and then it use the wifi.
