I ran across this forum thread on pocketnow.com that claims that leaving bluetooth on (not necessarily using it, but just leaving it on) drastically increases the Epix's battery life.

I know this sounds rather backwards, I'd imagine leaving bluetooth on would drain the battery faster, but am very curious if this is true.

I'll be trying this out over the next few days and encourage other forums members to try it out and report there findings back here.

Thanks

I doubt leaving it on extends the battery life, that makes no sense. That said with newer bluetooth chipsets leaving BT on has very little impact on battery life when it's not actually in use, to the extent that there's not much point in turning it off.

Yeh – I agree that it doesnt make any sense that leaving it on would increase battery life. I'm just very curious if this is the case. The user on Pocketnow seems very adament that his battery life is drastically increased when he leaves it on.

I'll continue with my rather unscientific tests and report back.

actually it doesnt increase it, but the power requirements for a “Bluetooth v2 host/client on standby” are extremely neglible. It doesnt really make any much difference, since all that's being exchanged in “idle”-mode is kind of like a “ping <-> pong” between Bluetooth Host and Client. For example, I own the JABRA BT8010 stereo headset (a bit bulky but perfect) which has a 300 hours stand-by, but only 10 hours of chatter (mono) time or 6 hours of music (stereo) time.

Just by comparing those hours you see how little power Bluetooth in “idle/standby” mode is consuming.
