Shouldn’t GPS work without cell phone / data reception?????

I have an EPIX.  Upgraded to WM 6.5.

I am attempting to use it without a data plan.  I use it for texting and phone service and it seems to work just fine.

I would think I could use the GPS without a data plan, and even if there is no phone reception.  What if you're out on a lonely highway and you have no reception.  Shouldn't you still be able to use the GPS?

I think that is similar to me, just not having a data connection.

But whenever I try to use the GPS it searches for a signal and comes up with nothing.

If anyone knows how I can get the GPS to work without getting a data plan please let me know.

It will work.  You just need an offline Navigation such as Garmin or TomTom.  Google maps will not work since it downloads maps as you are there and does not store them.


Here is a link on how to do the garmin. It is for the LG incite, but I had it working on my Epix without any tweaking so just follow it.

OK, I got the Garmin installed and it's working - it is connecting to GPS satellites - but there is only the very basic map and it won't let me do anything with addresses until I install a detailed map, which I can't figure out.  any ideas?
