Hi,
Is any using GPS software other than Garmin and Google Maps. I have Garmin working and Google Maps, BUT I want to know if anyone on this forum is using anything else especially a piece of software that has text to speech. If you have something that is working and it is a hack like Garmin can you share with the rest of the forum pls. I have been looking around and have not been able to get anything to work.
Looking forward to hearing from others on this topic

I sometimes use amAze. It is a free turn-by-turn gps software (no hack required). Honestly it's nothing too special, and makes more mistakes than google maps, but it is the only free turn-by-turn I could find that doesn't require a hack.

I used to use TomTom Navigator 6 which is turn by turn but not text to speech. After 1D1 update I have not been able to get the GPS to find or lock on any satellites.
Getting it set up originally was a bit of work but once set up, worked without any issues.

You will need to go to sourceforge.com and get a copy of GPSproxy and the installation instructions. You will also need a copy of the Microsoft .Net 3.5 framework and Application unlocker available on this website.
Install the App Unlocker and the .Net. Then the GPSproxy. Follow the instructions for GPSproxy settings. You need GPSproxy because TomTom is looking for a port number for the GPS output but the Epix only provides GPS under Windows control. GPSproxy creates a virtual com port which TomTom can locate.
Also, change the GPS setting using GPStest according to the posting at this site under Post 1D1 GPS.
It's all a bit tedious, but it does work once you get everything installed as adjusted.

disneydude, I fogot to mention that TomTom will require that you enter various activation codes to license TomTom on your device. If you have any other devices already running TomTom, you'll have to de-activate them before youcan get the new codes for the Epix. Also, if you received new codes within the last 6 months, tomtom won't send you new ones. they don't allow you to change devices that often.
