I bought my Samsun Epix, as my first smartphone, a month or so after being released. Being on ATT I felt there were three solid options, for me to make the leap forward.

What scared me about the iPhone was they control what app’s you can install, lack of a removable battery & physical keyboard and not having any Mac products in my life. No question it’s a great phone and was more capable back in ’08 than the Epix, yet thought the Epix had to catch up.

Blackberry Bold was another solid option back then. Blackberry’s seem to be more of a drive from point A to point B phone. Yeah, they are great, can do a lot but lack the bells and whistles. Stupid litmus test here but could not get into Fox Fantasy Sports for fantasy football, sure it’s petty but did send a red flag. Lack of a touch screen might have been what sealed the deal.

Onto the Epix…
What a joy this was, touchscreen, full qwerty keyboard, great browsers (Opera / Skyfire) able to download app’s, never failed on email, okay enough GPS (put me close and did not know how well other phones worked), microsoft office applications installed, and great call quality. At the time, I felt it was only a matter of time that all the developers turn their attention to Windows Phones…that may have been the #1 factor in me going with the Epix (and biggest downfall). Well, you know the rest; Android came out and stole all the developers.

I just retired the Epix and glad I did. Was a nice phone but too bad Samsung, ATT and Windows let this sucker die a slow death (releasing the Jack, not upgrading it to 6.5 for well over a year, no solid free app’s). Went with the Aria, but changed my mind and jumped on the Captivate. Aria is certainly a tremendous upgrade over the Epix, while the Captivate is on par with any current phone out there (iphone / droidX). It’s been night and day and it pains me to read all the complaints about the current issues (alarm issues, ringer volume, ect…), it’s time to just give up and move on.

All in all, the Epix had great potential and we all bought into it…then we were forgotten about by all except for this site. Was great to know you were always fighting for us and I relied heavily on the findings and insights here. Thank you very much for putting so much time and effort into helping all us strangers understand our phone a little better.

Nicely I've been addicted to flashing, due to VZW not seeking us to have entry towards the GPS on our phones. So I discovered the threads that tought me to flash my cell phone. Can even cook a small, but there are significantly superior chefs in existence, so I'm pleased to toast their perform. I at this time am running Lioryte's 23529 build from the WinMo 6.five.1 on the Samsung Omnia with VZW. So now I've won the Behold 2 from Samsung, been playing with it for a couple of months.I have it rooted, We've BusyBox on it and aHome UI. looks fine, performs great, but too significantly bloatware. (The Cube and much more) Tried the Galaxy trick, extremely quick and total of useable memory. It is Android one.five pure. I would rather update the B2, not revert to Galaxy, and build from that. I will if that's the only way, I'll test new Odins to the B2 and do what ever aid I can to aid the B2 community advance the excellent of this mobile phone.I'm shopping forward to assisting make the B2 the finest Android telephone readily available.

I have read through these posts and realized that I should have initiated a complaint with AT&T for my Epix several months ago when it started locking up while in use and failing to come out of sleep mode without me removing the battery and putting it back in. I have persisted, although aggravated but finally this past week the charger slot became hard to engage (I would insert it repeatedly until the phone FINALLY recognized it) and it finally gave up the ghost last night. I got ready to call for replacement and realized that I was 1 week away from being out of warranty. Talk about cutting it close.

I have noticed that this thread has all but stopped and I have to wonder if there was some miracle cure found for the Epix to make it work properly, if all the people who bought it have already done their 3 phone and replacement or if that is even still available.

My 2nd Epix will be coming to me tomorrow. I have to say I really like my phone but I need something that is reliable and won't crap out on me. I noticed AT&T offered some people the Tilt 2. Anybody know if they are still doing that and if not, what they are offering these days? I want to be optimistic but after reading through ALL these posts it is difficult. I had never upgraded (can you call it that?) to the ID1 so I feel like if the refurbished phone coming to me has it and it has so many complaints that it is going to be an excercise in futility.

If anyone is still out there reading this thread, please update or speak up. Thanks in advance!

Can anybody help me please? My Epix has experienced all of the common problems that we Epix users have grown accustomed to (volume control issues, power button not working, etc.). Today it wanted to add a new trouble to that list, and now it won’t open my messages. I’ve tried accessing the message menu from the Start-Up menu, the touchscreen, and the message button in the lower right corner of the keyboard, but still no luck. Can you guys help me please?

First off, thanks for this website. It has really helped me out alot!!
I ran into alittle problem and was hoping somebody could help. I am getting an error message whenever I try to select a ringtone for incoming calls or alarms or anything it states "This ring tone file is corrupted or unavailable. Please choose a different ring tone." I already went through all the ring tones and all of them have the same error message. Did I accidentally delete something? Is there anyway to get it back?

Thanks for the help!!

Conard,

Sorry its been a while since I checked this site. I got a message saying they were going to add a data plan to my line, but I called AT&T and they're adding an exclusion to my account so I won't have any more problems with automatic data plan additions until I upgrade my phone.

@Rice: If your earpiece is bluetooth it can't hurt to try the *2767*3855# command line reset. That type of reset can cure strange or random issues that are caused by the software (more specifically some corrupted piece of system software). Of course you'll either need to back up your system and data, or reload everything afterward. If it is a wired earpicee then it sounds more like a hardware problem but I'd consider giving the reset a try because it can't hurt.

ok..., ive had my refurbed-epix since thanksgiving of 2009, so about 2 1/2 months, all of a sudden my ear piece (not the speaker) stopped working. Now every time i make or receive a call i have to turn on the speaker to talk. could this be an option in one of the programs or a defect with the phone itself. every time i make a call i see an icon in the shape of a circle with + sign cross hairs and a diagonal slash "/" through the circle. ive refer back to the hand book but that icon is not listed. please help with any answers, and please leave on this forum/reviews or email me at trussno1@yahoo.com, thank you.
