Extend ring time before caller is sent to voice mail

As most of you’ve noticed the Samsung Epix forces “increasing ringtones” which can make it difficult to hear your Epix ring, causing you to scramble to answer your phone, only to have it go to voicemail before you can pick up.

Here’s a trick to extend the ring time before the caller is sent to voice mail, which will hopefully give you the extra seconds needed to answer your phone.

  • Start > Settings > Personal tab > Phone > Services tab
  • Select “Call Forwarding” from the list and press “Get Settings…”
  • In the “No answer” section, change the value of the “Foward after” to “30 seconds”

Now you have an extra 10 seconds of ring time before incoming calls are forwarded to Voicemail – its not much, but its better than the default 20 seconds!

Thanks tooreamnos and tvuong for noticing this!

tips and tricks Display the time in the title bar

Display the time in the title bar

Here’s a cool trick that atlana showed me to keep the current time visible on your Samsung Epix’s title bar no matter what program you’re in, so you can tell the time no matter what.

  • Start > Settings > System tab > Clock & Alarms > More tab
  • Check “Display the clock on the title bar in all programs”

Time in the title bar

You can also switch between the Digital clock (hh:mm) and an Analog clock (traditional circular clock face) by tapping on the clock (circled in red above) and holding for 2 seconds!

tips and tricks Organize the Start Menu

Organize the Start Menu

By default AT&T loads up the Samsung Epix with a whole lot of useless demos, applications and general clutter. You can now remove  unwanted shortcuts from your Start Menu, and organize the rest to your liking, just follow these steps:

  1. Launch File Explorer (Start > Programs > Applications > File Explorer)
  2. Navigate to My Device > Windows > Start Menu > Programs
  3. Delete any unwanted shortcuts (except for those listed below) or move shortcuts into new folders.

Organize the Samsung Epix Start Menu

Note 1: Do NOT remove/move Calendar, Contacts, Phone, Messaging or Internet Explorer Apps or else you will break hard key functionality. If you do not want them to show in your Start Menu, right-click on the shortcuts, select Properties and set them to be “hidden”.

Note 2: The shortcut to Windows Media Player resides in the AT&T Music folder, so make sure to move that shortcut out of the AT&T Music folder before deleting that folder.

Turn off vibrate when touchscreen is used

By default the Samsung Epix enables a very annoying feature enabled that causes the phone to vibrate whenever the touchscreen is used.

  1. Start > Settings > Sounds & Notifications
  2. Select the “Vibrations” tab at the bottom
  3. Uncheck “Screen Taps” checkbox
  4. Click “OK” in the upper right-hand corner of the screen
No more annoying vibrations.
tips and tricks How to use WiFi with Internet Explorer

How to use WiFi with Internet Explorer

One of the Samsung Epix’s great features is its built-in WiFi. This allows you to connect to the Internet via a Wireless network which has two big advantages:

  • Connecting to the internet using WiFi does not use data on your phone plan
  • Its generally faster than even the 3G network

By default the Samsung Epix does not allow you to use WiFi to access the Internet via Internet Explorer, luckily there is an easy fix.

  1. Start > Settings > Connection Tab (at the bottom) > Proxy Manager
  2. Put a check next to “Do not use a proxy server”
  3. Click “OK” in the upper right corner of the screen
You can now access the Internet via WiFi using Internet Explorer.
